Digifest Identity System

Project details

For this university project, I was tasked with creating an identity design system for Digifest, the Digital Media senior portfolio showcase held every spring semester at the University of Houston. Digifest allows students to practice their presentation skills and networking, to potentially get hired.

For this project, I started with my favourite art style, international typographic (swiss style),and looked for some inspiration on the internet. I found a few posters which I liked but one that stood out for me was a poster for Moderne Kunst Museum. The way different angled words interrupted others allowed to create certain shapes while still being able to read very easily.

Further research for a headline, I decided on “shape your future”. I came up with this after some brainstorming around what Digifest really meant for students. It is an opportunity to show their work off to potential employers, therefore a place where they dictate their future.

Incorporating my heading with Digifest and my design inspiration, I was able to create a similar effect to the Moderne Kunst poster. Together with my chosen headline, I was also able to create some abstract art around the type. I played on the words by using individual shapes coming together to form a greater image. This artwork is the scene over all my other deliverables to make sure that they keep continuity in mind.
